What to do when a car runs out of battery in the middle of the road

Cars running out of gas in the middle of the road not only disrupt the journey, affecting traffic progress on the road, but sometimes also pose a potentially dangerous risk of accidents. So what is the quick "first aid" for a car running out of gas in the middle of the road?

And HCM Driving Training & Testing School Find out through the article below!

Reasons why a car runs out of battery

The car starts and operates thanks to the battery. This is an indispensable part of every car, providing power for starting and lighting. During use, a battery that runs out of power will lead to the car not being able to start, causing hindrance to vehicle users.

So what causes a car's battery to run out? It is because of the following reasons:

  • The car does not start for a long time.
  • Cars run continuously on short distances.
  • The car was flooded, leading to a short circuit, causing loss of charge in the battery.
  • The battery is weak or old or damaged due to long-term use.
  • Cars operating in weather conditions that are too cold or too hot disrupt the energy release process and cause the battery to quickly become weak and show signs of running out of battery.
  • The car's generator has some problems.
  • Forget to turn off power consuming devices such as turn signals, lights, DVD players, etc. when stopping or turning off the vehicle engine.

When determining the cause of the battery running out of power, it will help the vehicle owner find the right solution, quickly help the vehicle restart and complete the route smoothly.

How to "Emergency" When the Car Runs Out of Tank in the Middle of the Road

If while on the road, the vehicle's battery unfortunately runs out, causing the vehicle to suddenly stall, then the following temporary "emergency" solutions need to be applied:

Car battery hookup

Car battery testing is the fastest way to deal with a dead battery without starting when there is no battery booster available. However, this method requires another car and a set of battery cables to connect the two car's batteries together.

This measure is carried out according to these steps:

  • Step 1: Park the two cars so that the front of the car is closest to each other, pull the handbrake on both cars.
  • Step 2: Turn off the equipment in the car that needs to be recharged, but turn on the air conditioner to avoid sudden voltage increases.
  • Step 3: Open the hood and make connections in the following order:
    • Clamp connects the red wire to the positive pole of the empty car battery, and the remaining red wire connects to the positive pole of the battery booster.
    • Connect the black wire to the negative pole of the battery booster, the other end is clamped to the metal piece in the vehicle compartment that needs electricity.
  • Step 4: Wait about 10 seconds then start the car, this process takes no more than 5 minutes.
  • Step 5: After the vehicle engine to be charged is successfully started, remove the battery jumper wire in the reverse order of installation.
  • Step 6: Let the vehicle engine that needs to be charged run for about 20 - 30 minutes to allow the generator to fully charge the battery and be sure to turn off all equipment to speed up the charging process.

During the commenting process, note:

  • Do not connect the negative terminals of two batteries together, it may ignite and cause a fire.
  • Do not let the two ends of the fishing line touch each other, do not let the red wire end touch the vehicle body or the ground.

Stimulation with battery pack

If you have a portable battery charger or backup battery available, you can automatically jump-start the battery when it runs out of power.

The processing steps are carried out as follows:

  • Step 1: Connect the battery wire of the dead car to the battery booster in the following order:
    • Clamp connects the red wire to the positive (+) terminal of the electric vehicle battery, the remaining red wire is connected to the positive (+) terminal of the battery booster.
    • Clamp the black wire to the negative (-) terminal of the battery booster, the other end of the black wire is clamped to the metal piece in the car compartment.
  • Step 2: After completing the wiring step, wait about 5 to 10 seconds, then start the car.
  • Step 3: After the vehicle engine is successfully started, remove the jumper wire in the reverse order of installation.

Call the traffic rescue center

If you don't have a hand-held electric starter and can't ask for help from another vehicle, the best way is to call the traffic rescue service. Using specialized equipment, they will jump-start the battery so the car can start.

If there are still no results, the technical team will conduct mobile repairs or take your "beloved car" to the garage for inspection and replacement.

Signs to Identify a Car with an Empty Tank

When the car's battery runs out of battery, warning signs will be given so that the vehicle driver can find a solution to ensure the vehicle operates stably. Some signs to pay attention to:

Warning signs when starting the vehicle:

Signs of a weak car battery
Signs of a weak car battery
  • The battery warning light illuminates: When the battery is weak or damaged, an orange indicator light will appear on the dashboard with symbols + and -.
  • The engine begins to weaken: If you turn the key to start but the car engine only moves slightly, it may be because the battery is weak, low on charge or damaged. If weak, charge the battery by running the engine for 30 minutes, turning it off and starting it again. If it does not explode after that time, the battery is damaged.
  • The car is difficult to start in the morning: When the battery is left overnight, it does not work, so the machine does not charge the battery but is still easy to start in the morning. But if starting is difficult, it is likely that the battery's charge has dropped and become poor, it is best to replace the battery early to limit problems.

Warning signs at the battery:

Batteries are blistered and leak electricity

  • Batteries are blistered and leak electricity: If you check the battery and see that the battery shell is bulging, the connections between the positive and negative cables are loose, causing the two terminals to corrode and oxidize. This causes the battery to quickly lose power and pose a risk of fire and explosion.
  • The liquid in the battery is lost more than normal, so you need to take it to a maintenance center to add distilled water to maintain the battery's electrolytic ability.
