1.3. Content and process of taking a class C driver's license exam

According to Circular 38/2019/TT-BGTVT Amending Circular 12/2017, the latest class C driver's license exam process is as follows:

Step 1: Theory test.

The test includes questions related to road traffic laws, driving techniques, common vehicle structure and repair, transportation operations, and driver ethics.

  • Exam time: 40 questions in 24 minutes.
  • Minimum number of questions that must be answered correctly: 36/40 questions.
  • Special requirements: do not make mistakes in the marked sentences.

Step 2: Take the test on simulation software (a new test to be applied from 2023).

  • The test includes computer simulation situations, randomly drawn from a set of 120 synthetic simulation situations.
  • Number of situational questions: 10 questions.

Step 3: Practice test in the picture.

  • The contestant must drive the vehicle to perform the tests sequentially arranged in the picture.

    • You don't need to use the gas, you should open the clutch and step on the accelerator and the car will automatically start up.

    • Cut off the brakes when reaching the stop line, release the clutch slightly and then release the brake and step on the accelerator to complete the test.
  • Lesson 4 – Through wheel tracks and narrow perpendicular roads: Go in the correct lane for the class you are testing and enter the test track to signal the start of the test.
  • Lesson 5 - Going through an intersection with a traffic light signal: When you see a green light but there is still a car ahead, you need to watch for enough time before going because the number of seconds on the green light is very short, to avoid going through the red light.
  • Lesson 6 – Winding roads: Pay attention to the rule “forward, stick to the back – back, stick to the belly”, steer quickly and decisively.
  • Lesson 7 – Merge the car vertically into the parking spot: If the chicken coop is backed up but there is no check signal but it exits, it will be disqualified.
  • Lesson 8 – Stopping where a railway passes by: Failure to stop will result in disqualification.
